ShipBot - BLACKFLAG
A robotic rover that keeps the ship sailing!
WHY?
The shipping industry faces challenges such as rising operational and labor costs, human safety and environmental concerns.
Implementing an autonomous robotic concept/solution to tackle the current issues faced on a ship deck would benefit the industry.
Additionally, the deployment of such robot can help reduce the environmental impact of ships by operating crucial control systems in limited time and thereby optimising the performance of ships and reducing their carbon footprint.
HOW?
Our team (Team BlackFlag) has successfully developed a mobile robotic rover called "ShipBot" to autonomously interact with and control various devices crucial to the functioning and performance of the ship like switches, stopcocks and valves.
ShipBot has been designed to withstand challenging marine environments, including high winds, rough seas, and saltwater corrosion.
It features advanced sensors and software algorithms to ensure accurate and safe performance.
Please check the report below to know more about the detailed implementation of all the subsystems involved in the rover.
We hope that this project will encourage further investment in similar initiatives and inspire innovation in the maritime sector.
